Welcome Back - Lesson Plans August 6-10, 2012

Welcome Back to School!  It is going to be a great year, and I excited to get to know my new 7th graders and to once again see the 8th graders! Don't forget to turn in all your forms!

English 7th Grade
Monday: Go over class expectations, seating chart, pass out textbooks, students will write 20 or more words/phrases that describe theirselves and turn this in
Tuesday: DOL, Diagnostic Tests, Journal Activity
Wednesday: Capitalization Ch 10 - Lessons 1 & 2 - Worksheet p. 178/181
Thursday: Capitalization Ch 10 - Lessons 3 & 4 - Worksheet p. 184/187
Friday: Revising for Capitalization - Worksheet p. 4/5

Reading 7th Grade
Monday: Letter to parents of class expectations (will count as a grade), seating chart, pass out textbooks, icebreaker activities
Tuesday: Bellringer, PowerPoint: Assessment Vocabulary/Power Words - take notes - matching quiz over words/definitions on Monday
Wednesday: Bellringer, How to prewrite for an extended response - GO Chart, model using Molly Pitcher story
Thursday: Bellringer, discuss strategies for anwering extended response, students will use completed GO chart from Wednesday to complete extended response answer
Friday: Bellringer, discuss differences in short answer and extended response questions, discuss strategies for answer short answer, complete an example of a short answer question

Reading 8th Grade
Monday: Letter to parents of class expectations (will count as a grade), seating chart, pass out textbooks, journal activity
Tuesday: Bellringer, handout: Traits of Good Readers/SQ3R - read and discuss, read "Penguins: Birds of the Ice" using SQ3R and answer questions
Wednesday: Bellringer, discuss predicting, inferencing, drawing conclusions, skimming, scanning; handout - KWL Chart; read "The War in Vietnam" text p. 485-486 and complete KWL chart; answer questions 1-3 p. 487 text
Thursday: Bellringer, discuss main idea/central idea, visualization, using prior knowledge; handout THIEVES reading strategy - read and discuss; read seatbelt article and complete THIEVES worksheet using article
Friday: Bellringer, discuss organizational structure, fact/opinion, 5 W's; read "Lots in Space" text p. 545-548; answer questions p. 549

Reading Lab -8th Grade
Monday: Go over class expectations, seating chart, go to library and check out "Freak the Mighty", journal activity
Tuesday: Bellringer, complete Vocabulary Frayer Model Ch 1-2
Wednesday: Bellringer, read and discuss chapters 1-2, worksheet 3 Thoughts
Thursday: Bellringer, complete Vocabulary Frayer Model Ch 3-4
Friday: Bellringer, read and discuss chapters 3-4, comprehension questions
